Single mother or single father allowance

This allowance is granted to single parents who are resident on Iceland and who care for two or more children below the age of 18.

Maintenance support such as advance payment of maintenance

The Social Insurance Administration, Tryggingastofnun can act as an intermediary when paying child support but this is not considered an allowance from the social insurance.

Parents who have received a decision or a confirmed maintenance agreement with a trustee can refer to the Social Insurance Administration and request that the administration pays the maintenance. The Child Support Collection Centre, Innheimtustofnun sveitafélaga manages the collection of child support from the payer and repays it to the Administration. The maintenance support is the same as the child pension amount. If the maintenance decision prescribes a higher maintenance amount, the Social Insurance Administration never pays an amount that is higher than single maintenance that is applicable from time to time. The difference must be collected by the recipient from the person who pays the maintenance.
